New DoFollow Plugin

October 30, 2007

We’ve had a lot of great response to our DoFollow OPML project. While we work on compiling the list, I thought I would go ahead and release a new DoFollow plugin. We have been playing with several different plugins lately. Of all the ones we could find, we like the original by Kimmo Souminen the best. However, I wanted to have more control on a per-comment basis, so I had Dax add to it.

Once you’ve installed and activated it, you will be able add individual NoFollows or DoFollows from the comment moderation screen.

You will also find a new box on your editor that will allow you to add NoFollow to the comments of a single post.

You can download it here.

I like the idea of being to control what comments recieve a nofollow and which don’t. I’ll probably be upgrading to this plugin soon.

  2. Greg on October 31st, 2007 5:17 pm

I like the control as well. And thanks for giving me the opportunity to show how it works. :)

Thannks for the plugin. But I wonder where is it possible to follow or nofollow the comment in comments list instead of from the comment moderation screen.

Greg before downloading this I was wondering does it matter what version of WP you are using?

Cool! - I’m just glad you didn’t use me in your demonstration. It looks a little like a tutorial on how to keep that Jeremy Luebke guy from spamming your comments. ;^)

Hey, Great plugin. I am already using the DoFollow plugin, but i seems like a good idea that you can control which link that need the do- or nofollow tag.

I think people are slowly realising that a dead forum is no good, I think the DoFollow plugin will become more popular in the future

I like the plug-in, and am going to write about it soon, but I have one concern. It when nofollowing a specific post the author’s link is nofollowed, but any links within the comment still are followed. If I’m nofollowing a comment I’d like it to nofollow the links within the comment itself as well.

I’m a big fan of yours from WMR - I can only hope the dofollow movement grows.

I hope the trend to dofollow grows and it’s good news to see high profile SEO’s getting involved.

[…] Do you ever have that question in your mind sometimes? do you allow DoFollow or do you NoFollow links in your comments? I’ve been using the DoFollow plugin for sometimes now but i must admit that sometimes i wish that some comments had NoFollow attached to it because quiet frankly you are in charge of your blog and sometimes you might want to impose the NoFollow on a certain link and now you can thanks to the New DoFollow Plugin. […]

I would agree with John Honeck, it would be cool if you could get it to sift through the comment and either slice out or nofollow the links? is that possible?

Anyone having problems getting this to work on 2.3+ versions? I can only get it working on 2.2.* versions :(

  17. SarahG on December 31st, 2007 11:01 am

After a bit of comparison, line 535 needs changing to below to have it work for both version 2.2.* and 2.3+. Code can probably be done better, I’m not too hot on pattern matching!

    $replace="/\<a href=\"comment\.php\?action=deletecomment&[amp|#038] ;[dt=spam&]?[amp;|#038;]?p=(.*)&[amp|#038] ;c=(.*)&(.*)Spam\<\/a\>/Um";

Im going to install this too, Thanks

  19. Rob on January 8th, 2008 9:14 am

This is great. At the moment I use semDoFollow, but this new plugin has a lot more control without having to remove rel=”nofollow” from the actual code at times.

  20. Jeremy Luebke on January 11th, 2008 9:45 pm

haha how did I become the poster boy for nofollow

  21. John Honeck on January 16th, 2008 10:04 am

Does not work with 2.3.2. The nofollow or follow option is not available under the individual comments section.

  22. SarahG on January 20th, 2008 2:13 pm

John Honeck, check my fix in the comment 4 above yours for WordPress 2.3+

  23. Andrew Kelsall on January 25th, 2008 5:11 pm

Hi, Ive installed the nofollow pluggin, but can’t seem to find any options for it in my wordpress admin area. It activated ok…any pointers? Thanks

  24. John Honeck on January 31st, 2008 1:48 pm

Thanks SarahG, I did try what you said but I still don’t get the nofollow/follow links within comment administration.

  25. John Hunter on February 14th, 2008 5:22 pm

Great job, this is exactly what I was looking for - the ability to nofollow selected posts. Awesome.

  26. Agni on March 2nd, 2008 4:14 am

It is actually a great plugin. I was seeking for this plugin for a couple of days and a friend of mine referrer to this post. This one is a great tool and we can also make some posts as nofollow.

Thank you for your kind information!

  27. fucc on March 3rd, 2008 12:38 pm

tested on my second site, great!

  28. Draver on March 5th, 2008 2:49 am

An awesome plugin. I got what I was looking for. This plugin has got lots of unique features which cannot be found in other ones.

Thank you very much for sharing this tool, it was a great help.

  29. Gurt on March 10th, 2008 4:02 pm

Works greate on WP 2.3.3 with the fix. Good job.

  30. Ardi Panondan on March 11th, 2008 5:26 am

Great dofollow plugin. I ‘ll try to my blogs. Thanks for sharing.

  31. Ivo on March 30th, 2008 6:12 pm

Its ironic that many bloggers talk about this but then they actually use no follow:(
I hope the dofollow movement grows.

  32. Anders Saugstrup on April 6th, 2008 1:29 am

Hey great plugin! This controll option will be usefull for me in the future - so far dofollowing did not attract any new spam though.
