4smartphone.net Sucks
I came into the office today to get caught up on some work. When I logged into Outlook, I discovered that the hosted Exchange service we use for our email has been down since Friday afternoon.
I went to their website to try and get some information on the problem and found this:
4SmartPhone is experiencing technical difficulties. This is causing inflated loads on some of the machines, as a result making our website unresponsive.
Our technical personnel are diligently working towards resolving this issue. Due to these issues, the 4SmartPhone website will be temporarily unavailable.
We are well aware of the situation and so we ask you to not send an email to support. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We will keep all of you updated as often as we can.
That’s it? I haven’t received any email in the last two days, and that’s all the information you can provide? How about letting me know whether incoming mail is being bounced or not? Or maybe a little information about when you think it might be resolved?
What pisses me off the most about this outage is the fact that this isn’t the first time this has happened. When I was in London last month, I wasn’t able to send or receive any email for a couple of days. I thought it was an issue with my phone, but it turned out it was a problem on 4smartphone’s end.
So it looks like I need to find a new provider. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know.
Update: Shortly after I posted this, Outlook was able to connect and grab my email from the last two days. However, the exchange server it connected to apparently didn’t have any of my old email on it. That caused all my email, folders and rules to get erased. I’ve been told that it their is a backup, but it’s going to take a few days for it to be restored.

I’ve been using http://exchangemymail.com/ for about eight months now and have been very happy with them. Support is awesome and I haven’t had any down time that I ever noticed anyway. Considering what kind of blackberry junkie I am, that’s likely a good sign.
Interesting - i use 4Smartphone as well and I’ve never noticed an outage - particularly not this weekend….must not have been all servers. Thanks for the heads up.
